Founded in 1998 Kids Helping Kids, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization headquartered in Montclair, New Jersey funds teen lounges in hospitals, provides mobility equipment and encourages the creation of social entrepreneurial projects that empower and support teens who have been affected by life altering illness and injury. Our founder, Mischa Zimmermann, used his sense of humor and compassion to help impact the lives of others. After his diagnosis with a malignant brain tumor at the age of 13, he used his recovery to help shape an organization devoted to the quality of life of teens in and outside of hospitals. His mission was to keep kids involved in the world of their peers, so they will never be forgotten. Although Mischa’s illness affected his mobility, his humor played an important part in his life and he viewed himself as a “Sit-Down Comedian”. With humor and a positive attitude, Mischa created Kids Helping Kids to bring awareness among the healthy youth of America about the huge difference they can make in the life of a child. Today the Kids Helping Kids mission continues to encourage the independent aspirations of its supporters and their unique skills and talents. As an example, several alumni of the original Kids Helping Kids high school club have joined together to bring you the Comedy Cabaret in honor of Mischa’s talent, the power of laughter, and their continued support of the mission of Kids Helping Kids, Inc.
Kids Helping Kids, Inc. continues to provide funds for equipment and supplies for our Teen Lounge at Children's Specialized Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ as well as making quarterly donations to support the hospital’s Peer Mentor Program -- a program which helps teens dealing with the challenges of hospital life and the transition back to their communities. Kids Helping Kids also supports Beth Israel in New York City, The Brooklyn Hospital, Brooklyn NY and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. 100% of tickets sales from this Comedy Cabaret Event at Gotham Comedy Club will help further the goals of Kids Helping Kids
